Dirty Harry Callahan

Postby fizzmaster » Wed Aug 26, 2009 7:07 pm

I watched "Sudden Impact" last night, watching "Magnum Force" and sipping Evan Williams on the rocks right now. Dirty Harry is one of the great icons of American cinema, and one of the greatest cinematic badasses of all time. If you love the Callahan flicks like I do, weigh in!

Dirty Harry movies are pretty good, but IMO, he's a total badass in all the spagetti westerns- Hang 'em High, For a Few Dollars More, etc.
the friends' discussions focus on admiration of Brasky's superhuman accomplishments, usually focused on his huge size, virility, celebrity connections, amazing tolerance for alcohol, and reckless disregard for human life.

I like em all.
The Dirty Harry movies are good, you get to see more of the "wit" associated with the badass (Feel lucky punk, make my day, etc...), but in the westerns he needs less dialogue to be said badass.

On a similar note,I always thought it would be cool to hijack a bus, line it with 2 inch thick metal plating and drive, drive, DRIVE!

I like the Dirty Harry movies. The only one I won't watch when I come across it is The Enforcer. My hatred of Tyne Daly knows no bounds.

Isn't that the movie where Daly plays the stereo-typical, young & eager, "replacement for a dead partner" -- whose presence Harry initially resents? Doesn't it end on Alcatraz, where her character gets gut-shot and dies before Harry blows up the bad guy on a water tower with a bazooka or something?

I enjoyed that one.

I thought I was the only one with that deep hatred!

This is a .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and if used properly, it can remove the fingerprints.

Dirty Harry isn't as good as Dirty Larry from The Hollywood Shuffle.

Nothing like good old Dirty Harry. Every dirty job that comes along, he gets the short end of the stick.
Magnum Force was one of his best, despite Tyne Daily's Dike dyke overacting.
Too many good quotes, "this here is the VFW", very few whites. He smashed one moto cop on his scooter head on and cancelled his birthday. Another got his wind pipe crushed in with repeated blows from Harry's hand to hand combat skills.
And you have to love the way he blows Captain Briggs to bits with his own plastic explosive as he drives the hooptie away.
A man's got to know his limitations.
With the number of full auto M16s, LAWS rockets, and dynamite the ass clowns that tazered the fat mayor (don't tazer me bro) could have kicked ass if they had'nt been all hopped up on the goof balls and MD 20/20.
Was a happy moment to see Tyne Daily gut shot and bleeding out on the cold Alcatraz concrete.
One of his best films.
I give it 4/5 750mls of Johnny Walker Blue Label.

They should have made a film with Dirty Harry and Paul Kersey in it. It would have been just 2 hours of them beating, stabbing, and shooting street thugs, but it would've been a fucking classic.
The man who intoxicates himself on bad whisky is sometimes moved to kill his wife and set his house on fire, but the victim of applejack is capable of blowing up a whole town with dynamite and of reciting original poetry to every surviving inhabitant.

I want to reiterate that this thread is for Harry Callahan, not Clint Eastwood in general. I love all Eastwood films, but Harry Callahan deserves his own thread.

This would be one of the most awesome movies ever.

And next week is Death Wish week on AMC.
