We have lived here 13 graduations (the high school is just behind our fence). This year, graduation 14, during full daylight, we heard what sounded like gunshots. Welp, it was the traditional fireworks display. Seriously, we thought it was an error, but apparently, the people in charge thought that it would be a good idea to set off the fireworks while the sun was still glaring in the sky. Looked like some smeary neon smoke, that was about it. I live in Rayturdville, it is true.

Asking your guests 'would you like a drink' and they know it will/should be alcoholic, now that's tradition. I mean, if somebody offers me to choose between tea and coffee (never ever happened here in Belgium) I would be mortally offended. I even heard my non-drunkard (although he does drink once in a while) neighbour asking a visitor, at ten am, 'fancy a beer?'. That's just what you do, as a civilized person.

Its even better when you get up early enough to make it to the 8 oclock mass, and pop that first beer at 930. Thats exactly how my sunday started yesterday.
