I believe that one of the basic tenets of Buddhism is that "want" is the root of all human suffering. "Desire" for material things causes evil and pain.

This is true, but there's a flip-side to that coin, and the thing is, there's no way to explain it without sounding like an asshole.

well fuck it, I'll be the asshole, when Buddha picks up a rifle and is primary through the door, then Buddha can tell me how to spend my money.

Buddha woulda burned some incense, talked the perps out, led them in prayer and taught them the error of their ways.

However Big B, being a dry, was most likely a lousy judge of whiskey.

I've been in plenty of Casino Bars, but never in a Bar Casino.

This one isn't too bad. Beam Distillers Series, it's thinner and lighter tasting than the Beam Black, which is strange. You figure with a 7 yr age statement, it would be closer in taste. The one problem I have with it, is that it's a little watery. It should taste full, and it's missing much of the caramel and smoke you'd expect from Bourbon. If anything, it's a good starter Bourbon.

what bourbons can I buy in our neighbourhood?

***UPDATE***

I have, before me, the 2011-2012 Mitra (Dutch liquor store chain) WhiskySpecial catalog and price guide. While the scotch selection is reasonably good, the bourbon offerings are rather slim.

The bourbons Mitra offers are: Four Roses, Four Roses Single Barrel, Four Roses Small Batch, Jim Beam White, Jim Beam Black, Maker's Mark, 3 offerings from the Traitor JD, and a bourbon I'm not familiar with, Penny Packer

Maybe Casino or ivan are familiar with Penny Packer?

Btw, BB...here's the Mitra WhiskySpecial catalog online (below)...unfortunately, it doesn't appear to have a price guide that I can find:

I'm familiar with Penny Packer. It's a good bourbon for the price. I'd choose it over Beam White any day.

Yeah...I'm trying to educate drinkers over here about JD but they've been brainwashed into believing it is THE American whiskey. Hard to compete with a gimme cap and a cheap t-shirt.

Hmmmm...could Wild Turkey Raspberry Infused Bourbon be far behind?

Is 81 an update of what used to be their 80 proof? Please tell me that they are not producing two different varieties with 1 proof difference. It's bad enough that they have 80 and 86.8 proof.

Troublesome, I know. It's warm, it has that going for it. I bought it for shits and giggles. I mean, why buy anything but the 101 unless it's for shits and giggles? It's going right down there in the cabinet, heck, I'm gonna put it next to the Devil's Cut.
