Drinking TV shows

Postby GetDrunkStayDrunk » Mon Apr 09, 2012 6:17 pm

There's been lots of talk about drinking movies on this forum, I'd like to bring up our smaller screen friends.

Obviously, a couples starters(I'm biased to my show library)

Californication
Mad Men

Those shows both definitely embody the drinking spirit, Mad Men has even been brought up before.

I'd like to throw out what I consider what might be the most important drinking show on TV right now.

How I Met Your Mother.

What??

I know right!

Consider, the show takes place at LEAST half the time at the bar, (which is not some douchey club) Of course they drink there. A lot. You know what's most important? They don't talk about drinking, They just drink. The best way to integrate a previously taboo thing is to talk about it as if it were nothing. so because they don't even address their drinking, it's just casual.

drunking rambling aside.. thoughts?

Justified seems to bee a long violent commercial for bourbon of all makes. Nearly every third scene show some one ordering or askin someone for some brand of bourbon.

"Are you there, Chelsea?" It's a mediocre, year of the girl-type show, but most of it involves working in a bar and/or drunken whoring. It is suspect, though, as it does star a known Scientologist.

Well, as for the oldies:
Cheers
M*A*S*H
Sanford & Son
there was some good drinking on Northern Exposure

Rescue Me is a fucking great show and has TONS of drinking, pretty much every episode.
I also hear good things about Californication.

I also forgot, My Name is Earl. There was some classic shit in that show and they are almost always hammered.

At the very least, she was; converted while she was dating Danny Masterson (Hyde), who was born into it. No telling if she still is into it, to tell the truth.

Another show to check, if it gets renewed, is "Raising Hope."

to be fair, being a scientologist in hollywood is like being a baptist in charlotte...it's just good for business.

"game of thrones" involves a lot of drinking, though most of it is wine. also nudity and blood. also damn fine acting, writing and production.

why is this in nbr, by the way?

I'm from the UK so I'm going to throw Eastenders into here, well most scenes are in the Queen Vic (the pub on EE) so I guess it counts...............right?

Boardwalk empire. Great show about (non) drinking, even if it's situated during the prohibition, it's all about alcohol. And when paz de la huerta calls 'ooh yes, daddy', it's always a great scene.

Started watching Californication less than 2 weeks ago. Hadn't seen a single episode. Just a few glances when it's been on TV. So I gave it a try. Had to do another episode. Couldn't stop. Today is 14 days and 48 episodes later, also many drinks later. This is the ultimate drinking show. The rest is just nonsense in comparison, I mean, drinking to Mad Men gives more of a sophisticated feeling. Drinking to Breaking Bad is just out of context. Drinking to Californication is just right. Drinking a lot to Californication is even better. I love the humor and sarcasm. Gets five drinks out of five. Too bad there's only the 5th season left. I think I have to start over.
